Rules for Establishing Long Lasting Relationships

1. Seek to understand the individual deeply without trying to change or being judgmental.
2. Make commitments you can keep and keep those commitments.
3. Give them the care and attention the way they need it, NOT the way you THINK they need it or the way YOU need it.
4. Know when to shut up.
5. Give the freedom to live their life without passing judgment and be there when things go wrong.
6. Focus more on the things they do well and only give advice when they ask for it.
7. Learn to let go if and when required.
8. Help to develop the capability to fight their own battles.
9. Act with sincerity and integrity at all times.
10. Accept the imperfections with grace as they make human beings much more adorable.
11. Tell or show them that you care. Very few can read minds.
12. Be direct and upfront (But timing is key!) .
13. Ask and give feedback on the relationship and keep changing yourself as you go along.
14. Face conflicts with the intention of improving the relationship. Never avoid them.
15. Never force to change their behavior.
16. Never do anything for personal gain.
17. Apologies when required.

One relationship that is built this way will be more enriching than 10 mediocre relationships.
